When you complete our Photograph Enquiry Form we will check that the item is part of our Collection, is able to be photographed (some items undergo lengthy Conservation or are on display) and that the Museum has the legal right to offer the item (Copyright). There is no obligation to purchase any of the photographs we offer.
We aim to complete all orders within 30 working days of receiving your payment. You can check the progress of your order at any time, or even cancel and your money will be refunded.
If you express an interest in purchasing photographs for your private research, we will send you a Photograph Sales Order Form. If you subsequently use the photographs in a commercial publication (book, magazine, television program or similar), contact us and we will send you a Reproduction Rights Application Form.
If you express an interest in hiring images for your commercial project, we will send you a Reproduction Rights Application Form. If it is a speculative project, you can hire several images at the same time and apply to reproduce a selection at a later date.
This service relates to items that are too fragile or old to be photocopied. They are ideal for letters, archives and maps. We will produce a digital image file and either write it to a CD or print out a colour paper copy for your private research. The quality is not quite good enough for photographs and these paper prints must not be reproduced in any form.
Please mark your Photograph Enquiry Form 'DIGITAL PAPER PRINTS' and state whether you want a CD or paper prints. We will then send you a pre-printed Photograph Sales Order Form with the price to pay.
