It is important to us that you enjoy your group visit here to the full. Activities for your group are designed with full consideration of risks, and risk assessments are completed for all new works and activities. In writing your own risk assessment it may be useful for you to know the following.
Teachers (and accompanying supervisors) are responsible for the general health and safety of visiting school children as at school. Teachers and supervisors should remain with groups at all times.
If an alarm sounds, all visitors and staff must exit by the nearest available fire door and follow the route indicated. National Army Museum security staff and visitor services staff will provide assistance to anyone within the public spaces. Groups taking part in presentations when the alarm sounds will be required to follow the Education Officer with them, who will don high visibility clothing. The fire evacuation point is at Burton Court, the grass playing field almost immediately opposite the Museum.
The uniformed staff at our Welcome Desk can be called to the assistance of any visitor in the event of an incident requiring first aid.
The uniformed staff at our Welcome Desk or throughout our galleries should be contacted immediately in the event of lost children. They will alert our Security and Education teams to the occurrence and instigate a search. Adults will be asked about a lost child’s identity before being reunited with them.
Any materials handled as part of a group’s booked activities have been assessed for the hazards they present, including historic and modern weapons. Supervision is maintained at all times by the Museum Education staff, who brief groups before handling on safety procedures, and ensure that handling is carried out with a view to the exploration of the object within its context of use and not as a plaything. All modern weapons are deactivated.
All the Museum’s galleries are maintained as safe spaces for the visiting public. Trip hazards are identified and isolated from access routes. Electrical equipment is regularly checked and visitors are protected from electric shock. Fire doors are safely and responsibly maintained.
