Later on, 4th Special Service Brigade landed on the heavily defended island of Walcheren (October 1944) to help clear the Scheldt estuary and open up Antwerp to Allied shipping, while 1st Commando Brigade spearheaded the Rhine crossing (March 1945) and advanced into Germany.
