In the Battle of Goose Green (May 1982), 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment attacked well-defended Argentine positions. After their attack stalled ‘H’ Jones led a daring charge against the trenches hoping to inspire his men. He was killed attacking a machine gun post, and was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.
Lieutenant-Colonel Jones was also awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE), the General Service Medal with Northern Ireland clasp and the South Atlantic Medal with rosette.
