Artist’s representation of Remembrance goes on display
From this week visitors to our War Horse: Fact & Fiction exhibition will be able to see a new addition on display. The special exhibition now features a unique cubist drawing from celebrated equine artist Sally Hyslop, fittingly entitled ‘War Horse’.
'War Horse' by Sally Hyslop, 2011
Inspired by myth and legend, Sally seeks to reflect the spirit of horses in her work, claiming that ‘War Horse is weeping for the victims of the war and sees no heroes’.
For many years this large drawing was left unfinished because the artist felt it failed to reflect the intention of her original inspiration. However, inspired by The Royal British Legion’s 90th Anniversary Cathedral Concert in Gloucester, Sally had the idea of incorporating a poppy into the piece and within a matter of days the drawing was completed.
