Group Visits
War Horse: Fact & Fiction’s combination of interactivity and original historical content makes it a fantastic learning opportunity for schools and also provides the perfect opportunity for groups to explore and reflect on the contribution of the horse in war.
Please Note: All school/group visits must be booked in advance. Please contact our Education Department for more info and to book – email education@nam.ac.uk or call 020 7881 2425.
Schools
Based on the popular children’s novel by Michael Morpurgo, the exhibition uses historical content from the Museum’s Collection to provide unique insights into the history of the Great War with objects from Siegfried Sassoon, Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig and Lieutenant Frank Alexander De Pass VC.
As well as visiting the hands-on interactive exhibition, our Education Department can complement your visit with one of our First World War presentations and handling sessions, helping to contextualise the story within the broader history of the Great War.
War Horse Stage and Screen
Want to explore the journey from page to stage? Exclusive content from Michael Morpurgo and the National Theatre as well as digital content from the Speilberg-directed film, provide the opportunity to find out more about the incredible journey of this spellbinding tale.
Combine your trip to the exhibition with a visit to the award-winning smash hit theatre production now playing at the New London Theatre, booking for evening and matinee performances until October 2012. Visit warhorselondon.com/learning/ for booking info and for details on education resources and education workshops offered by the National Theatre.
Plan your War Horse day
We have included some examples of how you might like to structure your visit to the exhibition around the theatre production. Please speak to our Education Department to discuss your options in further detail.
Film offer
The National Army Museum is also pleased to be working alongside Film Education who are producing an interactive curriculum-focused website to accompany the cinema release of War Horse. With materials for KS3 & KS4 English and History, this exciting free resource for schools will feature assets from the film exploring key themes, historical background and the process of adaptation for the screen. The website can be found at www.filmeducation.org/warhorse
Film Education is a charity funded by the UK film industry, supporting schools to use film in the classroom through producing award-winning teaching resources, running teacher training and offering free cinema-based events. They have been producing unique, curriculum-relevant film-based learning experiences for over 25 years at no or nominal cost to teachers.
Please Note: All schools/group visits must be booked in advance. Please contact our Education Department for more info and to book – email education@nam.ac.uk or call 020 7881 2425.
For details of how to book for theatre workshops and the theatre production, please see warhorselondon.com/learning/. Owing to the popularity of the production, Thursday matinees sell out several months in advance, so please plan ahead.
Groups (10 or more)
Why not complement your visit to the exhibition with a taught presentation from the Museum’s award-winning Education Department?
Meet the Curator and discover behind the scenes insights! Your group can have the opportunity to meet one of the team members who worked on the exhibition, providing a greater understanding of the development of the project and the content included.
Alternatively presentations on First World War or Animals in War would give your group a broader appreciation of some of the exhibition’s main themes.
Please Note: All school/group visits must be booked in advance. Please contact our Education Department for more info and to book – email education@nam.ac.uk or call 020 7881 2425.
