Watch students delving into the history of conscription at the Houses of Parliament in our Learning Team’s latest exciting project.

Schools debate conscription at the Houses of Parliament

Our learning team recently visited two London schools - St Thomas More Language College and Quintin Kynaston Community Academy - to discuss the history and impact of conscription. This was in preparation for a students’ debate at the Houses of Parliament.

Students were able to get hands-on with First World War propaganda posters and watch recreations of speeches made by politicians debating the Military Service Bill in 1916.

On the day of the debate the students were given a tour of the Houses of Parliament, and greeted by surprise guest Karen Buck MP, who acted as ‘Madam Speaker’.

Watch the video to hear students and teachers talking about how the project benefited them, and what they most enjoyed.
