Forgotten horses from the War Horse: Fact & Fiction gallery

Steven Spielberg’s 'War Horse' launches nationwide on Friday 13 January 2012. Bolster your reports and articles with expert spokespeople, historians, images, stories and location opportunities from our major new exhibition, War Horse: Fact & Fiction at the National Army Museum, Chelsea, which explores the real-life stories behind Michael Morpurgo’s hugely popular 'War Horse' novel.

This is a free exhibition for all the family to enjoy with exciting hands-on interactive displays and exclusive material from Michael Morpurgo, the acclaimed stage production by the National Theatre, London, Disney and the Brooke.

Our exhibition examines the vital role of the horse in war and the millions of these ‘patient heroes’ who have supported the British Army across time. Touching true stories of war horses and the men who depended on them are illustrated through the Museum's rich Collection.

Notes to editors

The National Army Museum explores the impact of the British Army on the story of Britain, Europe and the world; how Britain’s past has helped to shape our present and our future and how the actions of a few can affect the futures of many.

The National Army Museum was established by Royal Charter to tell the story of the Land Forces of the Crown wherever they were raised. Opened by the Queen in 1960, it moved to its current site in Chelsea in 1971.
