The British invasion of Burma in 1885 is remembered for Rudyard Kipling's evocative poem. Equally interesting is the fate of the invasion commander General Sir Harry Prendergast VC when the 'Times' correspondent and the newspaper's proprietor turned against him.

Rodney Atwood is the author of 'The March to Kandahar: Roberts in Afghanistan' and 'Roberts and Kitchener in South Africa'.
