13 October 2012, 10.30am - 5.30pm

Examine the fascinating history of army medicine and its evolution from leeches to lasers in two unmissable in-depth speaking events.

Without a doubt people have gone back alive who five years ago would not have survived.

Lieutenant Colonel Steve Lord, a consultant in the Emergency Department at Camp Bastion, 2011

Our first event takes a sweep through historical medicine, from the bloody battlefields of the English Civil War to the industrialised carnage of the Western Front.

We explore the constant figure of the military doctor whether plying his trade with a leech or developing the use of blood transfusions.
