2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment enter Port Stanley on foot, 1982
Dr Peter Johnston looks back on the Falklands War and discusses how the lessons learnt from it can be applied today.
In 1982, Britain found itself in a war against an unexpected enemy in an unexpected place. Dr Johnston will examine the Falklands War as a short, sharp conflict, waged over a mere 74 days. But he will also demonstrate its enormous impact on Britain in military, social and political terms.
Dr Peter Johnston is Head of Research and Academic Access at the National Army Museum.
In April 1982, British soldiers joined a naval task force sent to re-take the Falkland Islands after their surprise capture by the Argentine military. They went on to play a key part in the land campaign that helped secure victory in the war.
