During the Cold War, the British government conducted a hidden campaign of propaganda, deception and mental warfare against its enemies. A secretive unit forged documents, fabricated source material and weaponised organisations to disrupt and discredit Britain’s adversaries.

In this talk, Professor Rory Cormac will unmask the remarkable story centred around Britain’s clandestine propaganda operations, drawing on newly declassified files. From counterfeit letters and fake movements to intricate intelligence operations, he will examine the individuals behind these secret operations and expose the thin line between truth and manipulation.

About the speaker

Professor Rory Cormac is Professor of International Relations at the University of Nottingham and a fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He specialises in covert operations and state statecraft. He has written six books including, ‘How to Stage a Coup’, ‘Secret Royals’ and ‘Disrupt and Deny’.
