Join us for a gallery tour exploring the evolution of medicine in the British Army and highlighting the impact of front-line innovations.
Throughout its history, the British Army has been at the forefront of medical advancements. From leeching and anaesthesia to blood transfusions and plastic surgery, military innovations have been hugely influential on civilian medical practice.
The tour will piece together the experiences of soldiers across the world and down the centuries, spotlighting the specialist roles and units within the Army that are dedicated to health and medicine.
During the war in Afghanistan, Army medics at Camp Bastion Hospital treated thousands of wounded soldiers and civilians. Medical staff also provided vital support during patrols and combat operations.
This major exhibition of rarely seen artworks illuminates shifting attitudes towards soldiers and the Army during Queen Victoria’s reign (1837 – 1901).
