Join us for an exclusive members-only talk with Dr Andrew Wheale, discussing his book 'Ham and Jam: 6th Airborne Division in Normandy', winner of the Templer Best First Book Prize in 2022. 

Drawing on meticulous research from his award-winning book, Dr Andrew Wheale will show how the leadership provided by Major-General Richard Gale in the creation, development and operations of 6th Airborne Division was critical to the success of the Normandy invasion and the development of the elite airborne soldier.

About the speaker

Andrew Wheale

Dr Andrew Wheale was awarded a DPhil by the University of Buckingham in 2019. Having enjoyed a business career selling model soldiers, he now works at the Bodleian Library in Oxford and is a member of the British Commission for Military History.
