Join us on Ukrainian Independence Day for an evening of cultural activities and an examination of Operation Interflex, the UK-led multinational training programme for Ukrainian soldiers.

In 2022, the UK launched Operation Interflex, a military training programme to support Ukraine’s armed forces. The operation brings Ukrainian personnel to the UK, where they receive training in a range of skills with support from partner nations across the globe. This includes operating missile systems, delivering battlefield first aid, conducting tactical drills and developing leadership skills.

At this Museum Late event, we'll be exploring the impact of Interflex while also marking the 35th anniversary of Ukrainian independence.

Reviewing Interflex

Panel discussion
6.45pm - 8.00pm

Hear from an expert panel as they discuss the impact of Interflex. Together, they will examine how this operation has proved vital on the front line and what it could mean for similar initiatives in the future.

About the panel:

  • Major Jet Ryan was the chief of staff of Operation Interflex from July 2025 to June 2026. Prior to that, he commanded a company that trained over 400 Ukrainian soldiers in a three-month period in 2024.
  • Lieutenant Colonel Gaz Cole was the Operation Interbow course director from September 2023 to September 2024, overseeing the delivery of combat medical training to members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
  • Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Mallin is the commanding officer of the Joint Hospital Group (South East). In 2025, he received an MBE for his contribution to the training of Ukrainian combat medics.
  • Dr Olesya Khromeychuk is a historian and the director of the Ukrainian Institute London. She is also the author of 'The Death of a Soldier Told by His Sister', which tells the story of her brother, Volodya, who died on the Donbas front line in 2017.

The panel will also be joined by a representative of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Picturing Interflex

Cultural exchange

Listen to live music from the Songs For Ukraine Choir, try your hand at Ukrainian with a language stand from interpreters on Operation Interflex, and sign a Ukrainian flag with a message of support.

We will also be joined by the Ukrainian Institute London with displays and readings of contemporary Ukrainian war poetry.
