Most people have heard of the Battle of Balaklava. But for the majority of us, the site of this famous struggle - on the southern tip of the Crimean Peninsula - is impossible to visit.
The events of 25 October 1854 continue to fascinate people to this very day. Yet few understand how a combination of arguing noblemen, stubbornness and poor leadership led one of the most brilliant cavalry units in history to death and glory.
This virtual battlefield tour, led by Patrick Mercer, will use a blend of the latest technology and original artefacts to take you on the ground and explore how the Thin Red Line, the Charge of the Heavy Brigade and the Charge of the Light Brigade actually occurred. The guts, the mistakes and the tactics will be explained in a way that has never been done before.
Dr Alastair Massie will introduce items from the National Army Museum’s world-class collection to illustrate the story and bring the events of the battle to life.
This event will be delivered online in partnership with Battle Guide Virtual Tours.
The livestream will begin 15 minutes ahead of the advertised start time. The tour will then last for approximately 75 minutes, followed by 15 minutes for questions.
A link will be sent to all ticket holders 72 hours before the event begins.
