Cap badge of the 15th/19th Royal Hussars, c1959.
NAM. 1991-08-271-1
Introduction
This unit was formed in 1922 by amalgamating 15th The King’s Hussars and 19th Royal Hussars (Queen Alexandra’s Own).
It was transferred to the Royal Armoured Corps in April 1939 and lost all its armour during the Battle of France and its evacuation from Dunkirk. It then served in the United Kingdom until becoming a reconnaissance unit in Normandy in August 1944, fighting its way to Germany, where it then served several spells as part of the occupying force.
It was also involved in Britain’s post-war withdrawal from its empire in locations as diverse as Palestine, Malaya and Oman. Finally it was amalgamated with the 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary’s Own) in 1992 to form the Light Dragoons.
