Bookbinding Workshop

A visitor being presented with a bound book by a member of museum staff
Learn some of the historic skills of bookbinding and then put them into practice in this one-day workshop led by the charity Book Works.

The art of bookbinding has been a prized skill for centuries. From medieval manuscripts to the works of Shakespeare and more recent literary classics, bookbinding has helped these volumes to withstand the ravages of time.

In this workshop, you will learn the basic principles of bookbinding, then follow the various steps required to assemble a book. At the end of the day, you will take home a notebook which you yourself have designed and bound.

All tools and materials will be provided. Beginners are welcome.

This event accompanies our Shakespeare and War exhibition.
