Brexit and the army

Join our expert panel as they discuss how Britain’s exit from the European Union (EU) will affect the army and defence policy.

In the run up to the EU referendum in Summer 2016, passions ran high with debate and propaganda about the implications of Britain remaining or leaving.

Questions were raised about the impact on the army and Britain’s defence policies. Would Britain have to contribute to an EU army? How would Britain’s alliances change?

In light of the leave vote and the beginning of exit negotiations, we’re bringing together a panel of experts to discuss the impact of ‘Brexit’ on the army.

Panellists

  • Dr Isabelle Hertner (chair): Lecturer in Politics of Britain in Europe, Kings College London
  • Malcolm Chalmers: Deputy Director-General, Royal United Services Institute
  • Mary Dejevsky: Independent and Guardian journalist
  • Sir Julian Brazier: MP for Canterbury and Whitstable
