Poland discussion: 'First to Fight'

German soldiers breaking down the border gate at the start of their invasion of Poland, 1 September 1939

As part of this year's Chelsea History Festival, three experts discuss the pivotal role Poland played in the Second World War.

To mark 80 years since the events which sparked the Second World War, three leading authorities debate the definitive history of the German invasion of Poland in a lively discussion.

Former war reporter and author Jack Fairweather, historian and writer Roger Moorhouse and War Studies lecturer Dr Paul Latawski throw new light on this fascinating period. They present its broad outline, discuss its distinctive characteristics and enduring mythology, and explain why it doesn't receive the attention it deserves.

Doors open at 6pm, with refreshments available from the Café. The talk will begin at 7pm.

This event is followed by a book signing with the authors.

This event is sponsored by the Polish Cultural Institute.
