Second World War heritage day

Second World War collecting workshop
Share your memories and artefacts relating to the Second World War as part of a collecting project with the University of Oxford. Live music and re-enactors will help create an immersive ‘40s feel.

Do you have any memories, stories or artefacts relating to the Second World War? Would you like to share and preserve them for future generations?

We are inviting visitors of all ages to bring their medals, photographs, diaries, letters and any other war-related mementos to the Museum.

Volunteers will be on hand to record your stories, take photographs of your artefacts and upload the recordings/photographs to an online archive. Experts will also be present to provide information and answer any questions you have about you or your family's experiences during the war.

Plus:

  • Be transported back to the 1940s with live wartime music from our band.
  • Meet re-enactors from the British Army and Home Front and ask about life in the Second World War.
  • Get nostalgic with our Home Front display, featuring toys, newspapers and homemade items inspired by the ‘make do and mend’ campaign.

We are hosting this event in partnership with the University of Oxford, building on their successful First World War collecting project, Lest We Forget.
