Warrior
A Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle that was involved in acts of exceptional valour during the Iraq War is currently on display outside the National Army Museum.
For nearly four decades, Warrior armoured vehicles carried British soldiers into conflicts around the world. Fast, heavily armed and strongly protected, they earned the trust of generations of soldiers and helped save lives on operations from the Gulf to Afghanistan.
Recently decommissioned, this particular Warrior saw active service in Iraq in 2004. Research has shown that it was almost certainly the vehicle in which Private Johnson Beharry (now a warrant officer) earned the Victoria Cross for acts of bravery under sustained enemy fire.
Most recently, this Warrior served with British forces in Estonia as part of Nato’s forward defence against Russian aggression.
Inside the Museum, visitors can also see the Victoria Cross awarded to Johnson Beharry in 2005, alongside the helmet he wore during his second act of bravery. These are among the first objects from Lord Ashcroft’s collection of Victoria Crosses and George Crosses to go on display at the National Army Museum.
