A brief history of Britain, terrorism and counter-terrorism

Soldier and policemen standing guard
Professor Andrew Silke discusses the history of terrorism in Britain with a focus on the last 100 years.

The UK has a long history of facing threats from terrorism and politically motivated extremism, from the gunpowder plot of 1605 to the Manchester bombing of 2017.

Over the last 100 years many people have engaged in violence on behalf of a range of political and religious causes. This talk will explore some of these campaigns of violence and Britain’s responses to them.
