D-Day 80 Photography Display

D-Day 80 Photography Display
Eighty years after D-Day, military charity Blind Veterans UK has captured the portraits and stories of veterans who served in Normandy and now receive their life-changing support.

On 6 June 2024, the nation commemorates the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings - a decisive turning point in the Second World War.

Military charity Blind Veterans UK has teamed up with award-winning photographer Richard Cannon to capture the portraits of veterans who served in Normandy and now receive the charity’s life-changing support.

The portraits have been overlaid on photographs taken on D-Day itself, transporting these men who changed the course of history back to the historic date and providing a glimpse of what they would have experienced.

Alongside each photograph, you can read the veteran’s story from D-Day and start to understand how the mission only succeeded because of the commitment of so many, in a variety of roles, risking their lives for our freedom.

Today, these brave veterans are still battling, only now their enemy is sight loss. Luckily, Blind Veterans UK is there to help them learn vital life skills and give them the rehabilitation, training and support they need to live independent and fulfilling lives.
