William will discuss Percy’s vivid wartime experiences, his enduring friendships and his liaison with the French woman who bore him a son during his time as a prisoner of war. There will be a drinks reception and book signing after the talk.
Colonel Sir William Mahon served in the Irish Guards and around the world. Having visited Waterloo many times, his boyhood interest in the Peninsular and Waterloo campaigns was rejuvenated by his attaché service in Spain.
The Battle of Waterloo was fought on 18 June 1815 between Napoleon’s French Army and a coalition led by the Duke of Wellington and Marshal Blücher. It was the decisive battle of its age.
