Discover more about the contributions and experiences of soldiers from the British Empire in the First and Second World Wars.

What was the role of the British Empire in the First and Second World Wars? 

In this workshop, learners will explore the First and Second World Wars through the lens of Empire, with a focus on the individual experiences of soldiers from India, Jamaica, Australia, Ghana and Canada.

Using objects from the Museum’s handling collection and a range of printed sources, learners will uncover these personal stories as well as consider their wider regional context.

This session is 60 minutes long and includes:

  • Handling objects
  • Archival materials
  • Historic images
  • Group presentation
  • Group working and curation task
  • Peer-to-peer learning
  • Gallery visit and related trails (optional)
